Buzzquake’s procedures for creating a WordPress development site on SiteGround

Here are the steps that Buzzquake will go through to set up a development site where we can collaborate on content.  Before these tasks can be done, you will have to establish a SiteGround web hosting account.  Click here for directions on how to establish a SiteGround account.

Buzzquake will.

  1. Install WordPress on your SiteGround account.
  2. Add encryption to make it more secure.  Once encryption is added, the site’s URL will start with https:// (the s indicates it is encrypted).
  3. Activate a temporary theme so we can build the framework for the website before we undertake designing it.
  4. Put up an “Under Construction” page that will be visible to anyone not logged into WordPress.
  5. Create WordPress user accounts for personnel who will be tasked with adding content.  Each person for whom we create an account should receive email saying this has been done. To log into WordPress, go to https://YourDomainName.xxx/wp-admin, where “xxx” will be .com, .org, .net, etc.
  6. Create a page for every item in the planned menu and then build the menu (a page must exist before it can be added to the menu).  To see the menu, you must be logged into WordPress because an “under construction” page without the menu will show to the public.
  7. Teach your personnel how to add content to the website.  This will include special instructions on how to upload images.
