Using Google My Business effectively

Google offers a service named Google My Business, which is the first place you want to make sure your business has a listing. It is the best way to get your business hours, phone number, and directions on Google Search and Google Maps. Plus, it is easy to use and free! You have no doubt seen a Google My Business listing in Google Search results but probably did not know what it was called or how to create one. If you don’t have a listing, we strongly encourage you to create one and include each of your business locations!

One Customer’s Experience

One of Buzzquake’s best customers recently opened a new office in a distant city. They determined that the new location didn’t show up in Google results when searching with the company’s city and industry (“Philadelphia snow removal,” for example). However, the company’s original office showed up in search results.

The customer asked, “What actions we should take to have our new location start appearing in search results, preferably towards the top?”

Based on the way the company’s existing location came up in search, it was clear that the customer already had a Google My  Business listing for it.  We told her that an effective way to have a new location appear in Google Search results is to add the new location to the company’s existing Google My Business listing.

They followed our advice and the new location is now appearing in Google Search!


When you make changes to your business listing(s) the new information is used to automatically update Google Search and Google Maps with no further action required.

Stakeholders can leave reviews of your business, and you can respond to them as the business owner. You can track your ratings over time to see how they are trending.

Google also offers insights on how your customers interact with your listing – information that you can use to improve your marketing efforts.
